Acne Safe Retinoids (Wrinkles/Resurfacing)
The strongest retinoid is retinoic acid (prescription strength). However, there can be side effects seen with prescription strength for some people and the pore clogging ingredients can cause some people ongoing breakouts. The next most powerful topical which only requires one step conversion is retinaldehyde (retinal). The retinoids below have different forms of retinoids with varying strengths, including HPR, which is my favorite form personally, as well as Retinal and Retinol options.
HPR is more active, less irritating, and more stable than other non-prescription retinoids. HPR is an ester form of retinoic acid. It is unlike retinol esters, which require a minimum of three conversion steps to reach the active form; due to its close relation to retinoic acid (it is a retinoic acid ester), HPR does not need to go through the same steps of conversion as other retinoids do.
