How long have you been on ShopMy, and what’s your experience been like so far?
Alexa: I first found ShopMy when I saw a lot of dermatologists using the platform. I loved the way it was set up, and when they opened it up to more creators, I thought, "Why not?" The platform just felt so user-friendly, and many of the brands I work with were already on there. It just made sense, and once I started linking products, I got hooked. ShopMy really helped me build relationships with brands, and because of my consistency with linking their products, I started seeing more gifting and, eventually, Opportunities. It felt like a great way to engage with brands and get rewarded for doing what I was already doing.
When you first heard about Opportunities, what were your initial thoughts?
Alexa: I hadn’t actually heard about Opportunities before I received my first one from INNBeauty Project. Once I realized that all I had to do was post a few links to products I already loved, I thought, "This is too easy!" I was a little skeptical at first, but when I tried it, it was seamless. My audience loved it, and the campaign was really successful.
You mentioned the ease of the process; how would you compare your experience with traditional paid partnerships versus Opportunities?
Alexa: With traditional paid partnerships, there’s usually a lot more work involved. For example, I’ve had to produce a six-part Instagram video series for a much higher fee. But when it comes to Opportunities, the deliverables are way simpler—just a few links to products I already talk about. No approvals, no drafts, just a straightforward process. And while the fee might be lower than a full collaboration, I don’t mind because the process is much easier and feels more natural to me.
What factors do you consider when deciding whether to accept an Opportunity?
Alexa: The brand is my top priority. If it’s a brand I’ve worked with before, I’m more inclined to accept it because I know my audience trusts it. If it’s a new brand, I’m a little more cautious, but I also love discovering new brands. What really matters to me is how it will feel to my audience. I make sure that the brand fits into my content and won’t feel inauthentic.
It sounds like authenticity is key for you, especially with how your audience engages with your content. How do you decide what type of content to create for an Opportunity?
Alexa: It’s all about blending the brand seamlessly into my usual content. For example, if I’m already talking about sunscreen, I’ll mention the sunscreen that’s part of the Opportunity. I try to keep it casual and natural, like a conversation with my audience. I don’t want to bombard them, so I’ll space out the links and make sure they feel like part of the regular content flow.
How does your engagement differ when you’re posting links for Opportunities compared to traditional collaboration posts?
Alexa: With Opportunities, my engagement is way higher. I think it’s because it feels so much more natural. Sponsored posts can feel like a commercial, and people tend to skip those. But with Opportunities, it’s part of the normal content, and my audience can tell that it’s something I genuinely like and use.
Do you have any advice for creators who might be hesitant to try Opportunities for the first time?
Alexa: I’d say definitely give it a try! Opportunities are a great way to build relationships with brands, and it could lead to bigger opportunities down the line. If it’s a brand you already love or want to work with, it’s a great way to start that conversation. It’s all about building connections and showing that you value the brand and their content.
