One of my favorite sources of daily style inspiration and future FRĒDA designs is looking back. I love and strive for living in the moment, but I can't ignore that sometimes pieces speak to me because they remind me of an experience, movie, song, outfit from the past and that makes me happy. We'll go in order; 70's, 80's 90's... Also, I wrote a substack (click icon below) that walks you through how Nostalgia influenced FRĒDA's design process for next summer in a big way. (insert magic star emoji)
ADIDAS ORIGINALS | + Wales Bonner Reversible Checked Cotton-Twill And Recycled-Shell Coat
70's: I had to put this coat in the round up, because I love it so much and offers a lot of personality for the price point. I would call this a closet staple and would be my preferred version of a khaki trench. I am adding to my birthday wish list (hi mom!)
ADIDAS ORIGINALS | + Wales Bonner Crochet-Trimmed Checked Cotton-Twill Shorts
70's: I was little, so my mom dressed me, but she dressed me in hand me downs from my brother and sister and track shorts with knee high socks was a core memory (and documented in photos)
70's/80's/90's: I went through Vans and Chuck Taylors almost monthly. One pair of shoes did it all. I would keep the super worn pairs to draw on or funky up with new laces, safety pins with beads etc and then have a fresh pair to look nice. I even wore Chuck Taylors to my prom, which my 16 year old daughter is doing now, which I love. Our FRĒDA EDDY sneaker is my favorite favorite favorite sneaker now. They have the nostalgic vibe, but they are made in Spain with handwoven leather. The quality is incredible. I have had my same pair since they launched and they look like new and are a dream comfort wise.
Graphic print made in sequins is definitely something I am into and I love a set. So versatile to wear together or mix and match. This top would also be so cute with cargo jeans.
WAIMARI | + Net Sustain Christie Cropped Crocheted Lace Vest
Man I used to love vests with turtlenecks in the 80's. The Limited and Limited Express was my source. This vest from Net is so cool...I love that it is red crochet. Feels very fresh and of the moment and something I can work into Fall under a blazer.
I used to have Fisherman Jellies that I wore all summer long, so the FRĒDA SERA is my nostalgic vibe. They are literally the most comfortable shoes I have worn (miles and miles and miles) and they make every single thing look cool.
I live in these jeans. I love the higher rise, loose leg (but not too loose) and color. My style in the 90's was hippie/grunge and jeans like this worked for both. Once they got super distressed I would doodle, patch and embroider them.
ULLA JOHNSON | Georgina Ruffled Printed Silk Crepe de Chine Maxi Skirt
Thrifted hippie skirts to go to Dead and Phish shows with vintage cowboy boots. This Ulla Johnson skirt brings me back but I love the fitted waist, ruffle and print. I can see this skirt with everything from over a bathing suit during the day to a crop top and blazer for evening.
Thanks to Brenda Walsh blazers, western belts, body suits and high rise jeans was me feeling dressed up. Frankie Shop blazers are some of my favorite because they are so oversized and easy to dress up and down.
FRĒDA's modern western boot. They are clean/minimal (and so comfortable) which makes them a go-to. Easy way to elevated anything from jeans to skirts to shorts.
